Background colors can be set with the BODY code
BGCOLOR="#nnnnnn" where each set of two n's represent the color values in
hexadecimal of Red, Green, and Blue -- in that order.
The following test patches will link you to the basic pastel colors which do not override text (if in black, or some other strong color), and show up respectably well even on monitors which are far out of optimum adjustment.
Additionally, these colors will not be altered by the Netscape browser.
